LONDON.General Information I welcome you to London. London is one of the largest cities in the world.About 7 mln people live there.London is more than two thousand years old. London’s most famous sights are theTower, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and St’Paul’s Cathedral. Let’s start our tour.
Trafalgar Square It is a square in central London, where the Nelson’sColumn stands. It is knownfor the large number ofpigeons which come there andare fed by tourists.
National Gallery It is one’s of London’s well-known art galleries. It contains one of the mostimportant collections of Western paintings. It was founded in 1824.
The Houses of Parliament The Houses of Parliamentare the buildings in Londonin which the Britishparliament sits.
Big Ben It is the clock in the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. The sound of BigBen is well-known all over the world because it’sbroadcast by the BBC.
Westminster Abbey It is one of the leading sightsof London, a large gothicchurch, where almost allEnglish kings and queens have been crowned and where many famous peopleare buried .
the Tower of London It is an ancient fortressin the City, formerly a palace, then a prison.It is now a museum and the place where theCrown jewels are kept.
Maddame Tussaud’s It is a museum whichcontains wax figures offamous people. OpenedIn 1835.
St.Paul’s Cathedral It is one of London’s mostfamous landmarks. The present cathedral wasbuilt in the early part of the18th century.
Piccadilly Circus Piccadilly Circus is famousFor its shops, theatres andNightlife and the Eros Statue.
Buckingham Palace It is the London homeof the Queen.When theflag is flying on the topshe is at home.
