The war in Abkhazia (1992-1993)
In Abkhazia, the Georgian authorities to establish the relationship failed. The Abkhaz leadership has used the abolition of the Constitution of Georgia in 1978 and the restoration of the Constitution of 1921
In Tbilisi, August 10, 1992, it was decided to invade autonomy.
The violence began in the Ochamchira district.
16-27 September 1993 battle broke out, went down in the history of the conflict as a "battle for Sukhumi." Abkhazians have violated the truce and resumed the offensive.
May 14, 1994 with the mediation of Russia signed an agreement on ceasefire and separation of forces.
The conflict has claimed the lives of four thousand Georgians (1 more MIA) and 4 thousand Abkhazians. Loss of economic autonomy, at 10.7 billion dollars. The republic remains a huge number of mines that killed about 700 people.
August 26, 2008 Russia formally recognized the independence of Abkhazia and established diplomatic relations with it.
