The Indian Museum is the largest museum in India and has rare collections of antiques, armour and ornaments, fossils, skeletons, mummies, and Mughal paintings.It has six sections comprising thirty five galleries of cultural and scientific artifacts namely Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Economic Botany. It is one of oldest museums in the world.
Attractions of Indian Museum, KolkataArt Collection, Rare Antiques, Egyptian Mummy, Buddhist Stupa from Bharhut, Fossil Skeletons of Prehistoric animals, Buddha's Ashes, Collection of Meteorites etc.
Egyptian GalleryIt has a 'mummy‘ (4000-year-old), sculptures, paintings etc.
The special attractions of the museum include Gandhara art, fossils and skeletons of primitive animals, Tibetan Thankas, and other rare paintings.
The museum also displays extraordinary paintings and artifacts of both ancient and modern India.
The ash remains of Lord Buddha is one of the valued assets of the Indian Museum.
