Sherlock Holmes The first full-size statue of Sherlock Holmes was in Switzerland in 1988, by British sculptor John Doubleday – who also did the Charlie Chaplin, in Leicester Square. Doubleday was then commissioned for this tribute to the famous detective in London, unveiled in 1999.
Peter Pan Writer JM Barrie paid George Frampton to sculpt this work which appeared overnight in 1919. Questions were asked as to why an author had been allowed to erect a tribute to his own creation in a public park but it was so instantly popular it was allowed to remain.
