M-learning vs M-teaching
The purposes: 1) To know more about the method of m-learning 2) To know opinions of teachers about this method 3) To find out opinions of pupils about the method 4) To reveal positive and negative sides 5) To predict prospects of its development
Opinion of pupils What gadgets do you use at home ? 1st student: at home I use laptop the most. I can always find the information, the report, pictures or the book with its help in the net. If the report is made on the computer and printed, it will be certainly much more accurately made, and the mark will be better. And certainly I can't live without a smartphone. With its help I listen to music and I call to my friends and sometimes even to the teachers. 2nd student: at home I always sit at the computer. This is an important thing, especially in education. I also like reading e-books at home before going to sleep and in the underground. And ,of course, I can’t imagine my life without Ipod with my favourite music.
What gadgets do you use at school? At what lessons do you need them? 1st student: at school I always use my smartphone. It helps me at each lesson because you can take pictures of the task, access in the Internet, write down a lecture on a dictophone or translate a word in the dictionary. 2nd Student: I always take my mobile phone with because I can ask for advice or help of my friend with a message. I also use my e-books to have textbooks and necessary books.
Opinion of teachers Natalia Vasilievna Grigorjeva The teacher of Russian and literature
What does m-teaching mean for you? “I consider that this word can mean modern because presently many directions are connected with it.” Would you like to use innovations at your lessons? What gadgets would you like to use and what gadgets are necessary for pupils at your lessons? “Of course, it would be nice to have an interactive whiteboard and a projector in the classroom. Sometimes it is necessary to show the class a presentation or an educational video, but the conditions for this purpose are not available at present. It would be great to have a good computer and fast internet because sometimes it is the best way to find information. As I teach literature and the Russian language, it would be great if every student had an e-book or a tablet. Then there would be no problem with finding a book or with a heavy bag.
Are you ready to use them? If all this is now brought into the class and told that I can use it for all the lessons I would be very pleased. What might be negative for innovation? But another question that I'm not so good at using these gadgets, so I need to learn how to use them. What pros and cons of this method do you see? Firstly, use of gadgets will entice students. Secondly, technology is the future, and it opens to us a lot of possibilities. The found information will be fuller, and its search much faster. Communication with ill and disabled pupils won't be interrupted, it will be always possible to communicate, transfer the tasks and materials, to explain a theme, being far from them. It will be possible to show a theme much more visually, using pictures, presentations, video and audio materials. In addition, the lessons will be dynamic and students will easier assimilate a large amount of information.
Disadvantages “Emotional atmosphere of lessons, discussions of great products of writers and poets can after all disappear. In addition, students may be distracted from the lesson by the game, the Internet or chatting. Apparently, therae are much more pluses.”
My opinion. “I think that m-learning and m-teaching are a necessary innovation for education. Using gadgets offers us a lot of possibilities. And once these technologies are designed so they need to be used and developed. Clearly, I would not be able to test this method at school because I’m a school-leaver, but I hope our children will do it.”
