The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland occupies most of the territory of the British Isles and consists of 4 countries. They are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.
There are a lot of interesting places in Great Britain, which are worth visiting. One of the most famous and mysterious sites is Stonehenge.
Another mysterious place is Lock Ness, one of the lakes in Scotland, where people think a large monster lives.
The Lake District is the largest National Park in England. It’s situated in the north-west of England and contains a lot of beautiful lakes. The English say that the Lake District is the loveliest spot that man has ever found.
Windsor Castle is the oldest royal residence in the world that is still being used by the royal family! It’s almost 1000 years old! It’s also believed that the castle has lots of ghosts including those of Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, King George III and Charles I.
Cardiff is Europe’s youngest capital city! It became the capital of Wales in 1955. However, the history of Cardiff dates back more than 2000 years to the Romans.
Liverpool is the sixth largest city in Britain. This name literally means “a pool with muddy water”. The symbol of Liverpool is an imaginary bird called Liver Bird.
The Beatles and other pop bands made Liverpool famous all over the world.
Oxford and Cambridge are the oldest and the most prestigious universities in Britain.
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and the most marvelous and romantic city in Europe.
