Our town does not pretend to have the fame of Petrodvorets or Tsarskoye Selo. Their inimitable unique beauty is the special pride of Saint-Petersburg.Kolpino was growing not for the sake of glory, centuries and events made its geography and architecture.
The town was always strong and famous for its people. Hundreds of labour dynasties make up our pride now and are lively embodiment of the link of times.We can talk a lot about people who call Kolpino a small native land. One feature that unites inhabitants of Kolpino is that among them there are no people indifferent to the fame of the native town.
The Golden Book of Memory. The presentation of this unique book was on the 19th of December in 1997. The book is kept in the Museum of History of “Izhorskiye zavody” in Kolpino.This issue is interesting and at the same time original. There you can see a lot of names of the most honorary inhabitants of Kolpino District.All that infuses with hope and optimism that the older generation preserve historical heritage carefully and affectionately and pass on these merits to the younger generation.

The Saint DukeAlexander Nevsky The history of Kolpino’s land is connected with the name of the Saint Duke Alexander Nevsky who won a victory over Swedes in 1240 in the mouth of Izhora river.
Alexander Danilovich Menshikov Alexander Menshikov was a Russian statesman, whose official titles included Generalissimo, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire and Duke of Izhora (Duke of Ingria). Highly appreciated associate and friend of Tsar Peter the Great, he was the de facto ruler of Russia for 2 years.
Charles Gascoigne(Karl Karlovich Gaskoin) C. Gascoigne was a British industrialist. He reorganised the production of iron and cannon in Russia. He remained in Russia for 20 years, until his death. He became a State Councillor and a Knight of Saint Vladimir, and was head of all mines and foundries in Karelia. He improved many existing Russian iron foundries and built new ones, and also advancing the Russian's cannon-manufacturing techniques. He was the Head of Izhorskiy Zavod in 1803-1806. He died in July 1806 in Kolpino near and was buried in Petrozavodsk.
V. A. Plutsinskiy was the honoured trainer of the Russian Federation, the head of the hockey club “Izhorets” for about 20 years. The most famous pupil of him was the ice-hockey player Nikolay Drozdetskiy.
Nikolay Vladimirovich Drozdetsky. N. V. Drozdetsky (1957, Kolpino – 1995) was a Russian ice hockey right winger, who competed for the USSR. He played for SKA Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), then for CSKA Moscow (Red Army team). He finished his career with Boras HC in Sweden. He was named the most valuable player of the Soviet elite league in 1984. He scored 252 goals in 503 league games and 64 goals in 109 international games with the Soviet national team. Drozdetsky played on the Soviet national team, which won the Olympic Gold medal in 1984. He led all goal scorers at the 1984 Olympics with ten goals in seven games, and also led the Soviet team with 12 points. In 1991 he and V. A. Plutsinskiy organized The Ice Hockey School in Kolpino (now it is given a name after N. Drozdetsky). He died from complications of diabetes.
Andrey Nikolayevich Kapralov Andrey Nikolayevich Kapralov is a freestyle swimmer from Russia, who won the silver medal in the men's 200 metres freestyle event at the 2004 European Championships. He represented his native country at two consecutive Summer Olympics, in 2000 in Sydney, Australia and in 2004 in Athens, Greece. The greatest fame to the sports club “Izhorets” was acquired by him.
Alexander Vladimirovich Panov Aleksandr Panov (born 21 September 1975 in Kolpino) is a Russian international football striker.Panov is a lightweight and quick striker, nicknamed "Kolpino rocket" for his speed. Among his moments of glory are two goals in the 1999 final of Russian Cup, when he helped Zenit to a victory, and a double against France on 5 June 1999.In 1997 Panov returned to Zenit and become a first team regular, earning a national team call a year later.
J. I. Yevseyev is the director and the head trainer of the famous club of young boxers “The Kolpinsky Glove”.
J. V. Ilyin is the honoured engineer of Russia , the hereditary worker of the Izhora plant, the prominent designer of atomic power equipment.
V. A. Lapshin was the deputy of the last Council of People's Deputies of Kolpino and the deputy of the Municipal Council of Kolpino. He achieved a success in a reconstruction of the fountain on the square near the cinema “Podvig”.
D. T. Martynchik was the owner of the honorary title «The Leader of Regional Economy» in 2003. Architects headed by the famous Leningrad architect D. Martynchik made designing of residential quarters of Kolpino, the hospital № 33, the House of Arts for Children and Youth.
M. I. Popova was the head teacher of school № 467. Later she has organized and has headed the Center of the social service for the inhabitants of Kolpinsky district.
M. I. Gromyko was a teacher of history in school № 467. She organized the search group “The Rhythm“. She and her pupils found more than 500 tankmen who defended our city during the Great Patriotic War. The group had collected a lot of things, documents photos and letters, so later they organized the school Museum to the veterans of the 22nd Gatchina-Berlin Krasnoznamennoya Tank Brigade.
V. Y. Drobysh was born in 1966 in Kolpino and later he studied at school № 467. Nowadays he is a very popular Russian composer and musical producer.
There are more than 20 cultural establishments in Kolpino. One of them Concert hall “Izhorsky”. Here concert tours of leading St. Petersburg Theaters and concerts of famous stage-stars are taking place.Museum of “Izhorskie zavody” owns unique exhibits dedicated to the history of Kolpino.Among creative forces of the city the greatest fame was acquired by Russian musical instruments orchestra “The Silver strings”, choreographic ensembles “Sudarushka” and “Podsnezhnic” and musical groups from school of arts after P. I. Tchaikovskiy.
G. A. Yefimova was a journalist, a director of the Museum of “Izhorskie zavody”. She is the author of a number of articles and books about the history of Kolpino.
L. L. Fadeyeva lives in Kolpino. She is a poet, she writes the children’s poems. She is the member of the writers guild of St. Petersburg. She likes to visit schools, to communicate with schoolchildren, to read them her poems. Her book of poems is the good present to every first-former in Kolpino on the 1st of September.
E. V. Kutuzov lives in Kolpino. He is a the member of the writers guild of Russia. The most famous novel of him is the novel “In one’s sleep and in reality, or to play at spillikins”.
During the years of the Great Patriotic War it turned out that Kolpino found itself on front line of Leningrad defence zone. Voluntary formations of Kolpino inhabitants made a major contribution to keep the town against the enemy, the most famous was 72nd Izhorsky separate machinegun artillery battalion. Heroism of inhabitants was highly praised. Ten people of our town were awarded to the highest military title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
