My name is Dasha Sorokina. I’m in the seventh form. I like to dance, to go for a walk in the forest and most of all I like reading because it’s a way to know a lot of interesting and useful things.
The Magic Barber by John Milne (Starter) This story is about a town where all people wear black hats because they have long hair and don’t know anything about haircuts. Everybody in this town hates sunny weather. The reason is very simple – they are very hot and prefer to stay at home. Once a barber comes to their town and offers everybody to make haircuts for one dollar. All people are so happy that they throw away their hats. The small boy who comes with the barber picks up all the hats and puts them into a large bag. The barber is an excellent professional and makes everybody very beautiful. Unfortunately, in the morning all people see that they have no hair, they are absolutely bald. It’s clear that all citizens of the town want their hats back and the barber sells them their own hats for 2 dollars.
Be happy, don’t worry! I like the book “The Magic Barber” very much. At first I imagine a very dull town where all people are sad and unhappy wearing black hats. They don’t tell funny stories and anecdotes, they don’t smile and laugh. They only speak about work and their business with each other. One day a strange man appears in the town. On the one hand he is not a good character because he deceives everybody, but on the other hand the Magic Barber makes their lives more colorful and teaches them to appreciate and to love everything they have. It doesn’t matter if you are bald or if you wear a black hat you can be happy and cheerful.
Dangerous Journey by Alwyn Cox (Beginner) This story is about men who worked in the forest looking for iron and other metals. One day the weather wasn’t very good: it began raining heavily and it was too difficult to go out of the forest. Their truck stuck in the mud and their boss, Leon, was hurt. When they came to the bridge It turned out that it was broken. Four people decided to swim across the river in a rubber boat. Unfortunately, only two persons managed to get to the other side of the river. Water pulled the boat over with Joe and Leon but they could find a rock and climbed it. It was extremely dangerous because the water was rising. Their friend Pedro called for help. Some time passed and a helicopter saved friends.
It’s important to have friends This book teaches us that all people should do everything together, should help, should listen and understand each other and try not to quarrel. It’s important to communicate and to share your ideas with your friends or relatives. We know a very good proverb: “A friend in need is a good friend indeed”. I think it’s true. You can only rely on a person who can’t betray you in difficult situations. Leon knows that his team is his best friends.
Alissa by C.J.Moore (starter) This book is about a girl. Her name is Alissa. She is 12. Her family is not very rich and one day she has to go to the town to live there and to work. Her life in town is very difficult: Alissa works 15 hours a day, everybody shouts at her every day and she cries every night. Later she begins to work in the shop. She and five other girls make clothes. The owner of the shop gives the girls a little money. Alissa buys a book. When the owner of the shop sees Alissa’s book she is very surprised and invites her to serve the customers in the shop. One of the customers, a tall and pretty woman likes Alissa very much. She smiles at her and gives the girl small presents. The owner of the shop is very angry and shouts at Alissa. The tall lady takes Alissa with her to a new home. Alisssa is going to be happy.
Strong girl Alissa When I read this book I felt very sorry for Alissa. It seems to me that she is a calm and kind person who likes reading and studying very much. She has a dream and wants to go to school to get much knowledge. But life is not fair and she has to work to earn money for living. It’s very sad that all people around her were very bad and cruel. I admire her character. She didn’t give up. She got over pain and fear, loneliness and despair. The book teaches us to be kind, well-bred, educated, help other people and everything will be as you wish. There are good people in the world and if you are nice, you will find such people and they will be glad to know you.
