Desert facts Kalahari DesertSan people live in the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa.
The Kalahari Desert is a large arid sandy area in Southern Africa. Extend 900.000 square kilometres. Covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. The Kalahari supports some animals and plants because most of it is not a true desert. There are small amounts of rainfall and the summer temperature is very high.
Previously havens for wild animals from elephant to giraffe. For predators such as lion and cheetah. The riverbeds are now mostly grasing spots. The KalahariDesert was once a much wetter place. The Kalaharisupports a variety of fauna and flora. The nativeflora includes acacia trees and many other herbsand grasses. In the rainy season, tens of thousandsof flamingos visit these pans.
