Why Alkhanai? According to the legend Balchzhin-Khatum-Buryat princess married one of the Mongolian khans but his mother hated the young woman and Balchzhin had to run away to Zabaikalye. Unfortunately, she was caught by her followers on the top of the highest mountain and was killed there. Before her death she cried “ ” which meant “ ”. That’s why the mountain got its name. And the stream running down from the mountain symbolizes blood and tears of the killed princess.
